GARDEN GROWTH: Cited World’s Top City Garden last year by National Geographic, Vancouver’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Classical Gardens has seen unprecedented growth from visitors since its designation. Recently, 300 locals attended the garden’s 8 Treasures: Evening in the Garden Party & Fundraiser. Guests feasted on fine food and wine and bid on auction items in support of the garden’s education and community programs. Held on the eighth day of eighth month, the trio hopes to complete the trifecta by raising $88,888.
STYLISH STAKES: Worst-dressed city be damned! The Deighton Cup, one of the summer’s most playful and stylish events of the season, returned to Hastings Racecourse. Celebrating its fifth year, Vancouverites showed they can step it up, donning fascinators and fedoras to the Sport of Kings soiree. Stakes were high at the dressy affair. Hosted by Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan, attendees in big hats, lavish dresses and patterned suits enjoyed an afternoon of fine champagne, entertainment and games of chance.
