BLUE & GOLD: Many people talk about making the world a better place. And there are those who go out and make it happen. UBC celebrated six members of the alumni UBC community who see the need for change as personal responsibility at its annual Achievement Awards. Executive director Jeff Todd and board chair Judy Rogers hosted the blue and gold gathering at the Four Seasons Hotel. Feted were Salina Dharamsi, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, Dr. Gurdev Gill, Juanita Lohmeyer, Tim Laidler, and Dr. William Carpentier, chief physician for the Apollo 11 crew.
FRIENDS INDEED: Going once, going twice, sold! The 20th Annual Art For Life fine art auction was bidding to raise $150,000 for the Vancouver Friends For Life Society. Hundreds filed into the CBC studio for the swish art sale and party. On the auction block were more than 100 works by some of the country’s most talented artists in support of Friends For Life’s efforts of providing integrative therapies to people living with life threatening illnesses.
