ROARING SUCCESS: North Shore’s Nite of Hope benefitting breast cancer research was a night to remember. Nearly 300 gin-soaked and jazz-syncopated partygoers attended the Roaring ’20s-themed romp chaired by Gail Spurgeon. Partygoers pretty in pink boas, zoot suits and sequined dresses enjoyed a lavish evening of fun and philanthropy. Getting the ladies (and my boyfriend) in a royal flap were North Vancouver District firefighters, who offered themselves and their culinary skills up for auction.
NEWEST HOT SPOTS: Picketers be damned. Hours following the announcement of EnRoute Magazine’s prestigious Top 10 Best New Restaurants in Canada list, PiDGiN’s Brandon Grossutti and Makato Ono once again saw a mob forming in front of their Downtown Eastside room. This one though was much friendlier. Curious foodies filed in to sample the acclaimed dishes that made the embattled restaurant the critic’s fifth choice. The Acorn on Main Street, a veggie haven, came in ninth place. Vij’s Railway Express food truck won the inaugural People’s Choice Award.
GOOD ROCKIN’: Mary Jane Devine chaired Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JRDF) 14th Rockin’ for Research gala, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. A capacity crowd grooved to the tunes of Motown, while raising funds for diabetes research. Cheryl Treliving’s Boston Pizza Foundation was honoured for its longtime philanthropic support of JDRF.
