IN THE SWIM: One of the city’s toniest parties — at $1,000-a-plate — saw 140 well-heeled guests pull up to Lorne and Melita Segal’s Southlands mansion for the fourth Life Commitment Dinner. Event founder John Evans and co-chair Saeedeh Salem fronted the posh party held atop the Segal’s indoor swimming pool. It benefitttedthe Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation. Canucks owner Paolo Aquilini, Telus SVP Peter Green and Segal were among the heavyweights emptying their wallets of much moolah during the live auction overseen by yours truly. Cher tickets alone fetched $32,000 for the HIV/AIDS care facility.
CLUB KIDS: Kids were the big winner at the Boys and Girls Club Foundation of South Coast B.C.’s Clubhouse Gala. More than 350 guests filed into the Hotel Vancouver ballroom for the dinner and auction hosted by comedian Steve Patterson, host of CBC’s The Debaters. Proceeds will support afterschool hangouts located throughout the city.
SWISH SPLASH: Art collectors and enthusiasts returned to the CBC studios for Arts Umbrella’s annual Splash Gala, one of the city’s preeminent art auction benefits. More than 100 works from local artists and beyond were placed on the auction block. Paintings by artists Gordon Smith and Ross Penhall fetched the evening’s top bids contributing to the reported $350,000 generated for one of the country’s leading visual and performing arts school for children and youth.
