GOOD BUSINESS: Five hundred guests filed into the Fairmont Waterfront for the 11th Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business Gala, emceed by Arctic Air’s Adam Beach and Andrea Menard. At the event companies were honoured for their work with aboriginal communities, businesses and people. For his lifelong dedication to the Aboriginal community, including negotiating the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, Phil Fontaine, former national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, was honoured with the Award for Excellence in Aboriginal Relations.

MOVIE MADNESS: Vancouver International Film Festival rolled out the red carpet for the 32nd celluloid celebration. Unspooling more than 340 films from 75 countries, Nebraska, starring SNL’s Will Forte and veteran Bruce Dern (best actor winner at Cannes) got the party started. Between screenings, no less than a dozen red carpet romps, including the Brightlight and Lighthouse Pictures Gala, welcomed aspiring actresses, emerging filmmakers, industry insiders and hanger-oners to party down.

EXPANDED MENU: Bigger and bolder, Cornucopia, Whistler’s legendary food and wine festival, expands from four to 11 extraordinary days of eating and drinking. In addition to its trademark gala tastings, winemaker dinners, and wild after-parties, the 17th running (Nov. 7-17) will include craft beer, cocktail and spirits seminars, and health and wellness offerings.
