FINE DINING: Recognizing culinary excellence and promotion of fine dining, the 23rd Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA) conference and gala dinner honoured 21 of the city’s finest restaurants, including CinCIn, Bishops and Chambar. The three-day gathering culminated with a seven-course chefs’ dinner paired with Mission Hill Estate wines in celebration of owner Anthony von Mandl’s 2013 DiRoNA Hall of Fame distinction.
MISS MATCH: Yours truly emceed the 24th Big Sisters Gala, the charity’s biggest fundraising-do of the year! Taking place at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel and presented by Silver Wheaton, the glamourous Gatsby-themed evening featured a champagne reception, three-course dinner, and silent and live auction raising more than $210,000 to support Big and Little sister matches to help build a solid foundation for at-risk girls.
DINNER IS SERVED: Smiling tail-coated singers mixed with guests, served delectable food, topped up wine glasses and burst into song in one of the city’s most elegant homes. Chor Leoni’s annual fundraiser Home has become a welcome treat on the social and musical scene. Chair Jennifer Gaze welcomed guests to Sherry and Larry Killam’s Southlands mansion, a converted dairy farm from England, for the intimate concert, which marked the debut of artistic director Erick Lichte, successor to revered founder Diane Loomer who passed away last December.
