More than concrete

A sunny yellow park has popped up on Robson Street in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

A sunny yellow park has popped up on Robson Street in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Urbanites are invited to chill out with the artificial turf, grassy hills, beach umbrellas and built-in benches of PICNURBIA, which was conceived by the local design collective Loose Affiliates. PICNURBIA is part of VIVA Vancouver, a free, summer-long program to enliven street culture across the city. The city and community groups are also presenting a plaza in the Cambie Village at West 18th Avenue and Cambie Street, Aug. 13, 20 and 27, a mini plaza near the Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain station Aug. 24 to Sept. 3, and weekend events, that include concerts, skateboarding and a market, on Granville Street.
