The B.C. Hospitality Foundation offers $1,000 scholarships for people who want to train to become a sommelier.

If you are working — or want to work — in Vancouver’s hospitality industry, scholarships are available to help pay the costs of enhancing your skills.

The BC Hospitality Foundation strives to remove financial barriers to training opportunities through its annual scholarship programs. Some are available for people just entering the field.

Applications are now open in four different categories:

BCHF Industry Scholarships

• for children of hospitality workers whose parents have worked in the industry for more than five years, and who are themselves planning a course of study leading to any hospitality diploma or degree.

Applications are open year-round here.

BCHF Sommelier Scholarships

• $1,000 scholarship to further wine education studies, as part of a mentorship program; sponsored by Okanagan Crush Pad (OCP) and Authentic Wine & Spirits Merchants.

Applications are open here until Jan. 31.

BCHF Culinary Scholarships

• in partnership with the Chefs' Table Society of BC, which selects the students.

Applications are open here until Jan. 28.

The Greg King Scholarship at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts

• the King family offers a $1,500 scholarship to students who are passionate about cooking. Applications are open here until Feb. 28.
