The future of science was on display last week as students gathered for the 33rd annual Greater Vancouver Regional Science fair.
The event included 311 students from 44 schools presenting projects to more than 150 judges at UBC. Up for grabs were trophies, scholarships, travel awards and cash totalling $50,000. Seventeen worthy students were selected to attend the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Fredericton, New Brunswick later this year.
Among the Vancouver students, the following won recognition:
- Venessa Chan, Sun Chang, Grade 10: Honorable Mention, UBC Engineering Physics Awards
- Amardeep Sekhon, Grade 9: Bronze medal
- Phyllis Cherng, Nathaniel Lum, Grade 8: Silver medal
- Michelle Che Yan Lam, Gregory Zhang Shen, Grade 9: Honorable mention
- Milo Eirew, Grade 7: James International Award
- Nicole Tike, Grade 11: Gold medal, UBC Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Award, earned a spot in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May.
