The Bill Reid Gallery is taking indigenous art where it hasnt gone before with RezErect: Native Erotica a provocative exploration into sensuality and sexuality featuring works by 27 First Nations artists from the Northwest Coast and central Canada.
And its bound to push a few buttons.
Sex figures prominently in aboriginal stories across the continent, says co-curator Gwaai Edenshaw in the news release. We hope to carry on that tradition here sexy, intelligent, fun and provocative.
Expect to blush, laugh and feel passion as you experience works by Nicholas Galanin, Dionne Paul, Alida Kinnie Starr and more.
The gallery is quick to point out that works offer vivid glimpses of the artists identities, but do not necessarily reflect the opinions of everyone in their Nation.
