Week Ahead: Mid-Autum Moon Festival in Vancouver

You had us at mooncakes, but the fact the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden has been celebrating their by-donation Mid-Autumn Moon Festival for 20 years is pretty cool, too.

You had us at mooncakes, but the fact the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden has been celebrating their by-donation Mid-Autumn Moon Festival for 20 years is pretty cool, too. Second only to Chinese New Year in cultural significance, the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival brings families and friends together to honour the full Harvest Moon. The Gardens Festival of Reunion includes Chinese games, storytelling, live music, fan painting, lucky coin toss, fortune telling, wishing, and, of course, a Mooncake Cafe where visitors can sample authentic mooncake (the round shape symbolizes completeness and unity) and hot tea. This year's event includes a community lantern-building workshop. You can take home your beautiful lantern or leave it at the garden where it will be on display for the day. Sun. Sept. 22 from 10am to 4pm at 578 Carrall.
