Vancouvers Instant Theatre presents its fifth annual Young and Spontaneous Performance Series April 28 to May 1 at Havana Theatre (1212 Commercial), gathering together the citys finest improvisors for a four-night celebration of comedy. Pairing established improvisors and directors with emerging artists, multiple groups are created to workshop, hone and perform innovative new forms in improvisational comedy and storytelling. Each night will feature two shows and each show includes two separate performances, for a grand total of 16 hilarious, engaging and totally unique improvised one-act plays. This year, the plays are:

The Road Trip: Four young twenty-somethings are about to take the trip of their lives. They'll learn about the country, and themselves as they travel from coast to coast for a very important reason. Tensions will be high, lives will be changed, secrets revealed and fun will be had!

Star Alliance 557: The intergalactic space highway is long and tiring for the crew of the Star Alliance 557. The motley intergalactic crew travels through space doing the lowest priority jobs for StarCorp (a subsidiary of the Star Alliance of Companies). Sometimes they accidentally have adventures.

The Feud: A community stands divided, and when the dust settles only one can be the victor! This improvised play will showcase how a polarizing issue affects relationships, between enemies and allies, family and neighbours. (Pictured)

Down the Rabbit Hole: A secret between two people is finally revealed, and in doing so unravels their relationship, unfolding layer after layer until all is laid bare and the truth finally comes out.

Daddys Lamborghini: Two performers dive deeply into a Noir-infused improvisational world inspired by long scenes, enchanting characters and maybe even a little Tarantino.

Cameron MacLeods NIGHTMARE ON HALLOWEEN FRIDAY: In this solo horror film, one man will improvise a 25 minute slasher film involving an abomination of horrific proportions and the teens he prays upon.

Grit: Sex. Crime. Intrigue. This 1950's pulp-style crime fiction piece will knock you off your feet with its gritty characters and thrilling story. Crimes will be solved, lies will be exposed, hearts will be broken, and audiences will be left wanting more.

Shows nightly at 7:30pm and 9pm. Tickets $5 online, $10 at the door ($15 for both shows). InstantTheatre.com
