Not as fragile as rabbits and generally less skittish than smaller rodents like hamsters and gerbils, guinea pigs (also known as cavies) make wonderful pets. They’re friendly, easy to care for, non-destructive and, in the case of two special ladies at the B.C. SPCA’s Burnaby branch, very, very sweet.
Rosalina and Luma were surrendered when their previous owner, sadly, could no longer keep them. According to SPCA staff, they can be shy at first meet but, with plenty of careful handling – i.e., “feeding them veggies, sitting with them and really just building a bond” – will warm up.

“These special girls just take a little more time to bond,” shelter staff explain. “If you have been looking for two very sweet, young guinea pigs then please do not hesitate to come down to the shelter today and fall head over heels for these ladies!”
