The Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival will launch its 2015 season with two of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays – the audience favourite The Comedy of Errors and the classic tragedy King Lear.
Scott Bellis will return to direct The Comedy after taking the reigns for the 2014 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Lear will be a co-production with Theatre Calgary, featuring a mix of BC, Alberta and Ontario actors, and will be directed by Theatre Calgary’s artistic director, Dennis Garnhum.
Two other plays have been added to the bill: A new play base on the best-selling C.C. Humphrey historical novel Shakespeare’s Rebel (directed by Bard on the Beach founder and artistic director Christopher Gaze); and a music-filled Jazz Age take of Love’s Labour Lost.
Updates on the 2015 season will be posted on the festival website. Tickets will go on sale in early April through the website.
Bard on the Beach wrapped up its 25th anniversary season this year by breaking its attendance record, attracting over 100,000 patrons.
