Happy Best of the City birthday! Technically, every year is our birthday, but this year, our annual readers’ choice awards turns the big 2-0.
It’s a special thing to be able to open up our library and look back on how much the city has changed in the past two decades. Back when it was still called Best in the West, the Roxy had yet to be crushed by Tinder for best place to pick up, meanwhile “Other Asian” was an acceptable, all-encompassing category for everything but Chinese and Thai food.
In the intervening years, we’ve split the poll into Best of the City and Best of the City: Dining, to acknowledge how far our culinary scene has come, while expanding the regular BOTC list to represent a true portrait of city life (yes, yes, we know... there are a lot of categories).
Thank you to everyone who voted – your thoughtful, sometimes sassy answers are truly one of the highlights of our year. And, to the person who entered Kingsgate Mall into virtually every category, it was surprising how often it made sense.
