Local fans of Netflix Original series Sense8 would be wise to gather their clusters and make time for Pride events this weekend, because a handful of 8/8 sensates are going to be in attendance.
Translation for the uninitiated: Cast members from Netflix Original series Sense8 are set to participate in this year’s Vancouver Pride.
The fun kicks off tonight – Aug. 4 – when select sensates (co-creator Lana Wachowski, and cast members Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith) will host a fan meet & greet event at The Davie Street Block Party, beginning at 8pm.
On Sunday, Aug. 6, parade attendees can catch the aforementioned co-creator and sensates – as well as sensates Tina Desai and Alfonso Herrera – along the parade route. Following the parade, Wachowski and cast will speak briefly from the Sunset Beach main stage.
Sense8 is a cult-favourite sci-fi drama television series created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski. The series follows eight strangers around the world who are suddenly “sensates”: human beings who are emotionally and mentally linked and can participate in each other lives (which comes in handy when the sensates become the targets of – wait, no spoilers! Just know that a satisfying binge awaits you).
The show deep-dives into topics and realities that are otherwise largely unexplored in sci-fi film and television, including politics, sexuality, identity, and gender. Two seasons of Sense8 were produced for Netflix; the series will wrap up via a two-hour finale in 2018.
