Praise, all ye artists, and rejoice – more studio space is coming your way.
The Vancouver Parks Board is converting six more park field houses into free studio space for community art initiatives. This is the second time the Parks Board has done this – the current program is ongoing and will be completed in 2015.
The Fieldhouse Studio Program will provide the studio space free of charge. In exchange, the board is asking for 350 hours per year of “community-engaged arts practices and projects,” working with a range of communities and organizations in the city. The goal is to develop creative initiatives with community participants that emphasize social connection, creative expression, and art-making processes.
The parks board is taking applications for the February 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017 residency. It is open to any artist, collective and organization working in all disciplines: writers, composers, musicians, poets, choreographers, visual artists of all stripes.
The six fieldhouses are located at Moberly Park, Falaise Park, Slocan Park, Maclean Park and Hadden Park (which won’t be available until July 31, 2015). For more information, see the call for submissions.
