The Vancouver Fringe Festival isn’t just about pushing the limits of performance art and theatre; it’s also a great opportunity to discover some of Vancouver’s best up-and-coming bands.
Over the course of the 11-day festival, from Sept. 10-20, Fringe will be presenting a nightly lineup of live music and DJs at the Barefoot Wine & Bubbly Stage at the Big Rock Brewery Fringe Bar on Granville Island (1369 Railspur Alley).
The best part? All the shows are absolutely free to attend.
Local acts like Adrian Teacher & the Subs (Sept. 10), Colin Cowan & the Elastic Stars (Sept. 11), SAVVIE (Sept. 12), Cloudsplitter (Sept. 13), Uptights (Sept. 17), and Wintermitts (Sept. 18) will be taking the stage nightly to entertain the after-show crowd.
If you’re looking to move your butt, there are plenty of danceable options as well, including Paul Silveria’s annual Fringe Square Dance (Sept. 13), seven-piece funk outfit Love You, Miss You (Sept. 19), and DJs spinning sets to close out most nights of the festival.
The Fringe Bar will also host the inaugural performance of Phantom Signal, an homage to old radio programs from Fringe greats, Andrew Bailey (The Adversary, Limbo), Jayson McDonald (Giant Invisible Robot, Magic Unicorn Island), and Tara Travis (Til Death: the Six Wives of Henry VIII) on Sept. 15.
Doors open every night at 7pm. Sorry kiddos, it’s 19+ only.
And don’t forget about the Fringe’s Opening Night Dance Party on Sept. 8 with Tonye Aganaba and Tanga. Tickets are $20 for the opening party, which kicks off at 9pm.
