The club can be fun, if you have the right sort of personality for it. For so many others, da club is a forum to crush a few watered-down rye-and-Cokes and observe humanity at its most base and entertaining. A hormone-drenched safari, if you will, with mating rituals to make even David Attenborough blush.
Case in point, Love In The Club, a Tumblr site by Vancouver photographer Jashua Peter Grafstein depicting mostly heterosexual couples in various states of drunken embrace. Here are people kissing on the dance floor, canoodling in the corner, fondling in the, uh, foyer.
“I find it amusing that people do this stuff still,” Grafstein says. “It’s pretty embarrassing to see people in full-on make-out mode in the middle of the dance floor.”
The blog site, which was launched on Sept. 9, will be updated with at least one new photo every day. As a professional party photographer, Grafstein says there’s enough of this sort of behaviour on any given night that he manages to take at least one new photo.
(He has another yet-to-be-published photos series called Ew, No! depicting women “getting grossed out by creepy guys.”)
Grafstein has asked that we leave out the names of the bars and clubs featured in the photos, so patrons remain clueless to the fact their likeness may be published on a Tumblr site mashing faces.
“These are the moments I find entertaining,” he says. “I don’t drink when I’m taking photos. I’m sober the entire time, so when I see these moments happen, I get a kick out of it.”
So, what if he’s catching someone unawares while in an act of infidelity?
“I have no sympathy for cheaters. If you’re going to make out with someone in public, you should prepare for the consequences.”
You hear that? Cheaters: beware.
