What If

What if one year from now

We run into each other in the airport.

My heart races

Our memories flood with those times

We sat on airport floors together

Laughing and planning our adventures.

What if five years from now

I meet you at the supermarket

My palms sweaty when our eyes meet

My heart drops into my stomach and

I remember that letter I wrote to you

Saying I thought you were the one.

But the one

Doesn’t let you walk away.

What if ten years from now

I see you in a cafe

Your hair is dusted with silver,

Our faces weathered by the demands of life.

You tell me you still dream of me sometimes

Wondering what our life would have been,

If we never parted ways.

What would've happened,

If you had never let me walk away?

What if ten years from now

You realize that letting me go,

Was the biggest mistake

You’d ever make.
