Local dancers have the opportunity to audition and take part in master classes with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School (RWB) this Sunday.
Auditions are being held on Oct. 18 at the Scotiabank Dance Centre (677 Davie) for all RWB School professional training programs, including the Ballet Academic Program for students from Grades 6 to 12. Prospective students also have two opportunities to audition at the post-secondary level with the RWB School Aspirant Program and the RWB School Teacher Training Program.
Many dancers, such as Korean-born, BC-trained dancer Sophia Lee, have moved on to successful careers after being students of the RWB School Professional Division. Upon graduation from RWB's Ballet Academic Program, Lee spent only one year in the School’s Aspirant program before being promoted directly into the Corps de Ballet in 2011. This season she was promoted as a principal dancer with the company.
Students with a dream to dance or teach professionally are invited to attend, and pre-registration is available here. Walk up auditions on the day of are also welcomed. Those who audition also have the opportunity to win a scholarship for the four-week Summer Session taking place in July 2016.
To download the registration form and learn more information, visit the RWB School website or call the RWB School Office at (204) 957-3467. Fees range from $35 for a master class to $40 for an in-person audition.
