Vancouver Book Award finalists announced

The City of Vancouver has announced the five finalists for its 26 th annual Book Award.

The City of Vancouver has announced the five finalists for its 26th annual Book Award. The shortlist covers a range of genres: Fiction, non-fiction, short stories, poetry, and biography, all of which offer an original perspective on Vancouver’s diversity.

The finalists include Bruce Grierson’s What Makes Olga Run?, Doretta Lau’s How Does a Single Blade of Grass Thank the Sun? Ashley Little’s Anatomy of a Girl Gang, Billeh Nickerson’s Artificial Cherry and David Stouk’s Arthur Erickson: An Architect’s Life.

The five shortlisted titles were chosen by an independent jury made up of local writers and editors, including Alma Lee, founder and former artistic director of the Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival, who served as chair.

The award will be presented at the Mayor’s Arts Awards ceremony at the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre on Oct. 7, 2014.
