Take note, local poets: your fair city is seeking its Poet Laureate.
The City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Public Library and the Vancouver International Writers Festival are accepting applications for the honorary position, which will begin in October.
The Laureate will act as a champion for poetry and the arts, and will create a unique, artistic legacy through public readings and events. Applicants must be published or performance poets; live in the City of Vancouver; have an established body of work; and be recognized for notable contributions to poetry and literary life in Vancouver. Deadline for nominations is August 27.
Past poets laureate were George McWhirter (2007-2009), Brad Cran (2009-2011), and Evelyn Lau (2011-2014).
