The Vancouver Chamber Choir is proud to present its sister professional choir from Edmonton, Pro Coro Canada. ONE NIGHT ONLY!
Pro Coro Canada is a resident ensemble at the Francis Winspear Centre for Music in Edmonton, Alberta. Throughout its 34-year history, the 24 voices of Pro Coro have been shaped by some of the finest choral conductors in the world, including founder Michel Marc Gervais, Anders Eby, Søren Hansen, Agnes Grossmann, Richard Sparks, and (since 2012) Michael Zaugg. The choir has performed at the Toronto International Choral Festival (1994 and 2002), the 1988 Olympic Arts Festival, and Canadian Voices (the 2003 landmark series celebrating fifty years of professional choral singing in Canada and R. Murray Schafer's seventieth birthday).
2014-15 marks the third season of Swiss native Michael Zaugg's tenure as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor with Pro Coro Canada. Previously he was Artistic Director of both the St. Lawrence Choir in Montreal (2007-2013) and the Cantata Singers of Ottawa (2005-2014). Michael is constantly exploring new ways of integrating art forms with choral music, featuring live paintings, poetry and light/multimedia to name a few. In 2009 Michael founded the Montreal Choral Institute, an umbrella organization dedicated to the advancement of choral education. Active also as a Guest Conductor, Michael Zaugg has worked with Canadian groups including Halifax Camerata, musica intima, l'Orchestre symphonique de Longueuil, the Ontario and the Nova Scotia Youth Choirs. As Guest Lecturer he has worked with students at Brandon University (MB), University of Alberta and McGill University (QC).
