This past spring, when the Westside Church bought the Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts, Goh Ballet thought it had lost the only appropriate place to stage its beloved Nutcracker. The Centre was the right size, and came at the right rental price, for the independent ballet school, which had created sets for the Centre's stage.

City politicians got involved, local cultural leaders got involved. Everyone wanted to save the Goh Ballet's Nutcracker which, for many people, is akin to saving Christmas.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Sugar Plum Fairy.

Goh Ballet has entered into an agreement with Westside Church to ensure the Nutcracker will go on.

For the first time, it will offer performances over two weekends December 14 (2pm and 7:30pm) and 15 (2pm), and Dec. 20 (7:30pm), 21 (2pm and 7:30pm) and 22 (2pm).

Joining the local dance students will be two dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet and dancers from China's premier dance academy, making it a high-calibre, international production.

Tickets are on sale. Keep up to date at GohBallet.com.
