EASTER: These tarts will be flying off the shelf

This Easter, a tart in the hand is worth two on the shelf.

Vancouver's Tarts Bakery is once again celebrating the holidays by giving back, this time to birds in distress.

Tarts Bakery owners Lisa and Shawna Coan recently created a Strawberry Cheesecake Heart Tart for Valentine's Day to help raise money for the charity Dress for Success, which provides women with suits for job interviews and much-needed career development tools.

For Easter, the sweet sisters have created a Bird's Nest Chocolate Mousse Tart, with $1 from each sale will go to helping local bird recovery efforts.

This time they had inspiration come to them, literally.

Last August, a customer came into the bakery and asked for an empty box. When she said that she wanted it because a bird with an injured wing had wandered into the bakery and she wanted the box to take the bird to the hospital, "It was the last reason I expected her to say," remembers Shawna.

Still flying high from the success of their heart-shaped tarts this Valentine's Day, the sisters wanted to continue to give back to the community now that Easter has arrived.

The special Bird's Nest Chocolate Mousse Tarts will only be available until Easter; however, the public can pre-order their tarts before April 19th, which is highly recommended to ensure that they get their hands on them before they fly away for another year.
