MexicoFest September 5 to 16

While many of us think of Mexico as a place where we can take the chill out of winter, Vancouver is home to a vibrant Mexican community. Their homelands food and culture are about to be feted during MexicoFest 2012.

From September 5 to 16 youre invited to help pay homage to the cultural traditions that have helped shape the country since its independence from Spain in 1821.

Portraits of Mexico Art Exhibit, Sept. 1 to 16: Watercolour paintings, digital, mixed media, oil paintings at the Chinese Cultural Centre, 555 Columbia. 10am to 5:30pm, Tuesdays to Fridays.

Culinary Week, Sept. 5 to 16: Various Mexican restaurants will present special events and menus that celebrate the cuisine of Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.

Independencia Gala Dinner, Sept. 7: Celebrate Mexicos independence with a dinner, show, music and dancing at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Fiesta Mexico Independence with Los Claxons, Sept. 8: Food, music, dancing, arts and crafts at the Jack Poole Plaza at the Convention Centre. Free, noon to 8:30pm.

Mexican cinema, Sept. 5: The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival presents Todos Hemos Pecado, 7:30pm at Granville 7 Cinemas, $15.

Mexi-Go! Travel and Trade Expo, Sept. 7 and 8: 10am to 6pm at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Free admission. (And dont forget theres a free trip to Mexico on offer at WEVancover.com/contests).
