Re: "Manager, cop and lawyer top civic earners," May 16.
It is always interesting to see the government's justification for excessive salaries. Mike Howell reports that the various city executives in Canada have been successfully leap-frogging each other to see who can be the most overpaid.
I would suggest that a comparison be done with Seattle, Portland or Chicago city executive salaries and it will become evident that our people are overpaid by about 50 per cent. Keep in mind that if their salaries were reduced to reasonable levels, there is nowhere they could go other than to another Canadian government, and that there would be many, many applicants for their jobs.
