Cops should catch speeding cars on Mackenzie

To the editor:

If the Vancouver police wish to focus on crosswalk violations, I suggest they stakeout the four marked but uncontrolled traffic lights at Mackenzie and Carnarvon streets, just west of Macdonald at West Broadway. Pedestrians attempting to use these "crosswalks" are routinely passed by motorists travelling in both directions. I tried crossing at Mackenzie, and as I passed in front of a city bus that stopped for me, the driver of the bus blasted his horn to warn me that a speeding car was about to pass his stopped bus in the curb lane-which is exactly what happened. The speeding car sped on without stopping.

Now, if the police were to stake-out Mackenzie Street crossing, they could issue more tickets for traffic violations than any other place I know in the Lower Mainland.
