Spring brings snow, fruit and now awards nominations. The Courier received five nominations for the upcoming Ma Murray Community Newspaper Awards. The winners will be announced April 26.
Those nominations include best newspaper in our circulation class (for our West Side edition), where we're up against worthy rivals the White Rock, Peace Arch News and The Kamloops News.
Writing award nominees went to Mike Howell for best feature, Michael Kissinger for environmental initiative and Geoff Olson for best cartoon. All well deserved.
The nomination we're particularly happy about was for online innovation for our Vancouver Special series, which has been 14 months of steady, hard work to coordinate both the print and digital versions of this massive project. But considering all we and our readers learned about the city's neighbourhoods since Vancouver Special began, it was well worth it even without the nomination.
Now to come up with a followup for the rest of 2014 ...
