Re: "Pantages' foes need to check their heads," April 27.
I was at city hall for the Development Permit Board meeting. Opinionated Allen Garr wasn't. The pushing and shoving he talks about lasted all of 15 seconds when security tried to prevent people from entering the room. Perhaps if Garr had been there, he could have interviewed the "little old ladies who feared for their safety." I was there for six hours and I didn't see them. When he says "by all accounts," he didn't ask for my account.
And Garr should get his facts straight. Carnegie Community Action Project was not appointed co-chair of the Local Area Planning Process. City council appointed the Downtown Eastside Neighborhood Council (DNC) to co-chair. Pretty sloppy reporting from where I sit.

I'm so tired of Allen Garr vilifying Vancouver residents in his one-sided columns. In his April 19 column, he referred to members of Neighbourhoods for a Sustainable Vancouver (NSV), as "crackpots" and then in his April 26, column, "Pantages' foes need to check their heads," he referred to Ivan Drury as "a thug." Garr is the one who needs to check his head. From my recent experience with the city, the only bullies I see are the ones at 12th and Cambie.
People in Vancouver are not only fed up with city council pandering to developers and turning their back on communities but also with their lack of accountability and transparency. There are no checks and balances in place to hold the city accountable for their actions. They break their own rules to suit their needs all in a vain attempt to shut communities up. People are not just standing up and speaking out against city hall for no reason
