Good news, commitment-phobes. According to a forthcoming paper from the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics, couples who experience an unplanned pregnancy are now more likely to move in together rather than go for the full meal deal and get married. We’re also willing to bet that those couples are more likely to describe moving in together as “shacking up” and pregnancy as “having a bun in the oven.” Maybe that’s just us.
According to an article on the Vancouver Sun website, the shift away from so-called “shotgun weddings” in the U.S. is partly due to a loosening of social stigmas regarding out-of-wedlock births. All of which raises several questions. Could there be a more unsexy, uninteresting study about people doing it? Why is a Vancouver newspaper running stories about American marriage trends? And how tired and possibly hungover is K&K that we have to resort to writing about this kind of stuff?
