Letter: Bike path will encourage more cycling to Kits

Re: “Vancouver Bike Path Critics Ready to Fight,” Oct. 18.

Should we tear up the Kits Beach area tennis courts, basketball courts and multiple paved walking paths? I don’t think so. They’re a great way to create a joyful, healthy part of the beach park area. And so is a cycling path. It no longer works to have everyone walking and biking together on the path that currently runs through Kits area parks and by the beach so the park board is separating the two, as it has for almost all of our gorgeous seawall — to create a safer route for all. As for danger to playgrounds? Not only can we see that it works well to have a path for people cycling alongside playgrounds in the Second Beach Park but it’s a fun, environmentally sound way for families to safely and actively get to the playgrounds.

As a resident in the Kits Point area, I’d be very happy to see lots more families and others cycling to the park instead of driving endlessly through our local streets looking for a parking spot.
