Letter: City does not fund BIA

To the editor: Re: “ City shops fight back against Black Friday, ” Nov. 22. A point in your story requires correction: The BIAs are not funded by the city.

To the editor:
Re: “City shops fight back against Black Friday,” Nov. 22.
A point in your story requires correction: The BIAs are not funded by the city. They are funded and governed by the building and business owners within a very specific geographic area. The city does collect the BIA levy through the property tax system, similar to how the independently governed Vancouver School Board funds are collected, and remits the full amount to the respective 22 BIAs in the City of Vancouver.
