Re: "Secret camera captures Robertson/ Pride pact," July 27

I am beyond disappointed that you would publish Mark Hasiuk's latest piece, on the eve of our city's Pride celebrations. Did you as editors and publishers really find anything remotely amusing, intellectually stimulating or informative about the homo-obsessed ramblings of Mark Hasiuk's inner mind? Aside from being insulted that you think, we your readers, would find this content worthy of our time, it has made me seriously question the judgment of a publication I have otherwise enjoyed reading and supporting.

Homophobia is not funny.

Mark Hasiuk is not funny.

Time and again you allow him to use your paper as a platform to take low, insulting, unprovoked blows at the LGBT community. Why? It only serves to reflect poorly on your publication, and overshadow the otherwise fine writers you have on staff.

If Hasiuk insists on staying in touch with his inner Doug Collins, then do the right thing, and give him the boot into the blogosphere where the rest of the angry, hateful, honky, whack jobs like him live. But don't give him a column, and don't let him rain on our parade.

Rory Richards,

Vancouver

It's pathetic that Mark Hasiuk feels the need to write deceitful columns with fake conversations from my office. Even worse, his last one included a nasty and ignorant attack on our gay community just days before this year's Pride Parade. His ridicule of transgendered people and contempt for the Pride Society is offensive, although not surprising given his past articles attacking the acceptance of gay rights in Vancouver public schools.

The very reason why we have and need a Pride Celebration in Vancouver is because there are still people like Mark Hasiuk in our community who think that gays, lesbians, and all who identify as queer deserve scorn instead of respect.

Mayor Gregor Robertson,

Vancouver

(Editor's note: The Courier has never published content attacking the validity or necessity of equal rights for gay citizens.)
