Re: "Dogless reader wants more dog parks," Letters, Aug. 12.

Am I the only one who finds it odd that the people who complain about dogs running wild, harassing wildlife and citizens are the same ones who are against dog parks? It is obvious by the constant objections to solutions (off-leash dog parks) that these people have less of an interest finding a solution than forcing their own agenda down everyone else's throats.

A survey by Ipsos Reid estimated that 35 per cent of Canadian households have dogs. Fact: There are, according to our own city's statistics, 140,000 dogs in Vancouver. Fact: There are 35 off-leash dog parks, more than half of which are only available on a limited basis. Can anyone imagine 4,000 dogs trying to use one dog park the size of a small lot?

It's time for the city and park board to address this issue in a realistic and sensible manner, instead of cowing to a few determined vocal dog-haters.
