Letter: School funding under the microscope

Re: Letter: Revved up over Chevron cash,” Nov. 28.

Letter writer Terry Dawydiak is rightly appalled that science classes dealing with microscopes have no microscopes. Why isn’t the provincial government doing its job and providing enough funding for schools to operate with the necessary equipment? My schools certainly had microscopes many decades ago.

The idea that we should rely on corporations is nothing less than an abdication of the responsibility of government. One thing I was taught in those same schools is that there is no free lunch. This fossil fuel corporation is not offering money out of the goodness of their hearts.

If they were, they could just offer to pay more taxes, turn down government subsidies or donate the money completely anonymously.
