To the editor:
Re: “Vancouver school board faced with cutting key athletics job,” April 9.
Thank you for bringing attention to this insane idea to save money at the cost of so much. A few of the costs I can see include:
- School spirit.
- Lifelong interest in being active.
- Opportunities to see teachers as mentors and examples of volunteerism.
- Leadership roles for student managers.
- Involvement of scorekeepers, referees and linesmen who often upon leaving school get involved in local sporting organization and officiating.
I am so disappointed this would even be considered as an option. I will be at the rally on Tuesday with my daughter and many of her teammates.
