Re: "MP defends early closing of Kits Coast Guard base," Feb. 22.
This morning I picked up the latest Courier to read on the front page that Conservative MP Wai Young is defending the abrupt closure of the Kitsilano Coast Guard station with the nonsensical statement that "February is spring in Vancouver."
It is obvious, as Christine Collins noted, that the closure was timed to coincide with the presentation of the B.C. budget in the Victoria legislature, in the time-honoured tradition of taking major actions when one hopes they will attract as little attention as possible.
Ms. Young makes the disdainful, Marie Antoinette-like remark: "You tell me what's important to the people of Vancouver." Perhaps this issue is more important to Vancouver residents than she thinks.
