Re: "Council approves 22-storey tower," June 29.

What a long overdue victory for renters in the West End. Finally, a small bit of relief from renovictions and the oppressing wrath of the gentrifiers who adamantly oppose all rental housing, and therefore renters, in the tired old belief that they negatively affect their property values. If you don't like renters don't buy into a rental neighbourhood. While this new development won't solve all our rental problems, it will have some local effect on gouging landlords and their renovictions. New units will siphon off many potential renoviction customers who will prefer new and green to old and tarted up. The tower will not be out of place as it is comparable in height to the 18-storey tower next door. The proposed prices are within range of local nonprofit housing market rentals.
