The PNE will offer free admission this weekend. You can thank the rain.
With a forecast of showers this weekend, the PNE issued a press release a short time ago announcing free admission for the popular fair if you get there before 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 or Sunday, Aug. 31.
According to the release, this is the first time in the PNE's history that admission will be waived during the Labour Day weekend, which traditionally accounts for 30 per cent of the event's total annual attendance.
This is a good, if strategic, move by the PNE. It needs to bring in strong numbers in its last three days, but it also recognizes rain means a diminished experience for fairgoers and is offering them a break.
Or perhaps not so diminished. Vancouverites know rain better than anyone and if a little wetness stops you from going outside, you need to move elsewhere. Rides will be affected, but a lot of the things I'll be looking forward to when I attend tomorrow (hello, Superdogs), are indoors.
See you in the lineup.
