Second place = losers

In regard to the person complaining about the hockey jerseys: hey, those people wearing them are just showing support for their second place team. In fact theyre probably dreaming of next season at Rogers Arena, the lights dim, techno music comes on, the announcer yells out ladies and gentlemen your VanLOSER DoSUCKS. Dont worry Jersey boys, soon the season will start and you get to pay astronomical prices for tickets to a game of overpaid pretty boys, who much like eunuchs, just cant finish what they start.

Jersey judgement

This is for the person that is embarrassed at the people wearing hockey jerseys. Its funny that you are suggesting that they grow up and you are the one that is judging them based on what they are wearing. As someone who works in the fashion industry, I understand that hockey jerseys are not the most stylish thing to wear, but come on, people have the right to wear whatever they want. And what are you suggesting by mentioning that you saw a lot of jerseys in the riots? Are you saying that jersey = rioter? Well, in almost every riot in the past 50 years in North America there have been people wearing jeans. Maybe it is these jeans that are causing people to riot. And finally, with your jersey strut comment, you could replace jersey with business suit, yoga wear, or punk vest and it would have the same meaningless sentiment that Ive heard a million times when people are complaining about someone elses clothing. Get off your high horse, people can wear whatever they want.

Hockey is religion

I have news for you gutless anonymous complainer (Jersey Season is Over, July 21): We live in Canada. People are allowed to wear hockey jerseys all year round. There is no season. Hockey is our religion. If you dont like hockey, thats your prerogative but to piss and moan about it and make comments about the riots too, well youre just an ignorant idiot. I feel sorry for you.

Generation Entitled

This is for the anonymous Rantline caller who wants to be left alone to sip coffee and work on his computer for hours at Starbucks. You sound like the perfect spokesman for the Generation Entitled. We live in a civilized society which means we show some respect and regard for others who may need a seat to have a coffee for a short break. The tables at Starbucks are for the enjoyment of all customers, not just the greedy. If you need to work on your computer for hours, go home.

Curb the biker rants

Your paper is solely responsible for creating animosity between bikers and drivers. Stop printing rants about bikers. We dont have money, we cant afford cars, were braving it out there with the elements. It has nothing to do with our bloody green footprints. These people who are sitting in their luxury vehicles and driving to work in luxury sitting in a nice environment with music and cellphones have no right to bitch about bikers, so stop printing rants about bikes. Get over it, move on.

Spewing words

Hey, Mr. Insurance for Bikes: Car drivers should actually have to pay more in taxes and insurance youre spewing some pretty obnoxious and toxic fumes into our faces all day long; you make walking down some streets in this city hell due to your toxic fumes and noise; you kill cats, raccoons, skunks, squirrels and birds each and every day with your filthy transport method (I see plenty road kill on my way to work each day); and you support dirty oil more than most. Bikers should get tax refunds just for the fact that they dont do all these things.

Curbside cowboys

Everybody talks about the trials and tribulations of driving these days. My biggest beef is with the curbside cowboys these are the drivers who come up in the right-hand curb lane and speed past you and run into a wall of parked cars and expect you to break your stride and slow down and let them in. Some of them even signal and actually expect you to do this. If youre within the flow of traffic and dont have to break your stride, fine. Let them merge. But in reality, this a violation and borderline illegal and I see it more and more. Ban the curbside cowboys, theyre idiots.

Poor form

I just watched a Census employee wearing ID try to get into my building and he was being treated as a would-be burglar. I tried to intervene but was loudly told that We cant let him in the building, its nothing personal. I would like my neighbors to know that the Census form serves us all by providing statistics on things like the number of children in an area, the languages spoken, and the number of voters. Its right there on the form I was mailed.

Intersection chaos

As I sit at my computer looking out onto Georgia and Cardero streets, Id like to congratulate those thoughtless SOBs who deem it necessary to block the intersection so those on scooters, using walkers and canes and those pushing strollers must try and work through the maze of cars, most of the time putting their safety at risk by stepping into north south traffic (that is when they can proceed). I have called the police about the situation but they can only look into the problem when a situation arises. So I guess this means when a pedestrian is injured or killed. Silly, silly me, I thought preventive policing would be the way to go. Again, if no spot is opened on the other side of the crosswalk, maybe hold your auto back until a spot has opened up.

Proud citizen

I want to give an enormous thank you to the people who put on the Vancouver 125 celebrations at Stanley Park. It was a really well thought out and organized event, and I thought it really demonstrated how Vancouver has learned how to make an event work (recent riot notwithstanding). It made me proud of my city and it was uber-enjoyable!

Back of the bus for you

This is to the nasty old witch on the Davie Street bus who verbally assaulted a young disabled man who sat in the front of the bus. Youyelled at him to vacate that seat as it was for seniors only and berated him for the entire trip from the downtown core to Denman street. Well, you are wrong woman, he had every right to sit a the front of the bus!For one thing there was only three people in those designated seats with at least four empty ones: you, an elderly gentleman and that young man who appeared to be developmentally disabled.Just because you dont know your ass from your elbow when it comes to people with disabilities doesnt mean that you have the right to police the designated seats on public transit and verbally assault anyone who you dont think qualifies to sit in them.Perhaps this same young man was trained by a life skills workerto sit at the front of thebusfor his own safety and like many people like him who have to be taught how to dressandhow to shop and who need a lot of supportto successfully live on their own and even hold employment, they certainly dont need people like you to attack them for trying their best to travel independently.
