Clear as Mud
I just had to write in a rant about how disappointed I was that in East Van on Saturday night, a full day after the “big snowfall”, barely anyone had made the effort to clear their sidewalks for pedestrians. I had to walk home from Nanaimo to Chinatown after a work Christmas party, and it was slippery suicide! It took me over an hour to navigate in the dark – especially the hills that run between the Drive and the hellish carscape that is Clark. What happened to doing your civic duty? Or has modern living made us all lazy assholes…?

Grinch Maneuver
So I live at 2095 Beach Avenue. Annually one of the residents takes out the Christmas lights and decorates the hedges and part of the gardens in magical red LED lights . I say magical because we get so much positive feedback from the neighbours and passerby. So this year, the lights go up for maybe three nights, and then are stolen overnight, extension cords and everything. Terry spent almost all day putting them up. What kind of person steals Christmas lights which have provided joy to so many? Sad commentary at this time when so many of us give to those who have less. Humbug!

'Tis the Season
Two weeks ago, when I got home after doing a bit of grocery shopping I realized I had lost $10 between the grocery store and home. I went back to look along the way and also in the store. While I was checking around someone – a gentleman, I was told – had left two five-dollar bills for me to replace the money I lost. I was stunned, touched, incredulous, actually, that someone would do that and I just wanted to say thank you to the gentleman. I didn’t spend it. I couldn’t. I taped it to my refrigerator and that is where it will stay for me to look at and remember the kindness of a stranger.

Why close a shopping area when there’s a closed section of Robson Street in back of the Art Gallery?

Beluga Blues
Re: “Please, no more belugas at the Aquarium” Dec. 8, 2016
No more – just stop it. An enclosure is not an ocean, no matter the size. They are not interchangeable and an enclosure will never be what they need.
