Dense decision
Good news West End residents! The Safeway and Liquor Store on Davie Street are being torn down, to be replaced with condos! Yay, right? I’m sure the City took into account the existing density, the single lane roads, narrow back alleys, and of course, the current parking situation in that area. More density, more people, more pollution, more garbage, that’s how to make Vancouver the greenest city, isn’t it?
How many more condo towers does Downtown Vancouver need? As many as are required to keep certain pockets lined, of course, and all at the expense of quality of life for locals. Luckily the decision makers all live in detached homes with nice yards on quiet streets, so you can take comfort in that.

Love for Hillcrest
Hillcrest Pool, such a gem in these wet rainy days of winter! I love it, but there are a few things that are a bit concerning; the staff do a great job attempting to keep it clean, but it is a struggle for sure. Hair: we’re all losing it, but if there are globs of your hair, pick it up! Shaving: if you need to shave, clean out the sink when done. Bodily functions: the drains are for water, only water. Aquafit classes: I sometimes hear Can’t Help Falling in Love or Unchained Melody as the cool down song. The music selection is too beautiful and I sometimes end up crying afterwards.
Finally, a shout out to Mr. Kong! The older guy who will give you a massage. My shoulder is much better!

Wages dont keep pace
Re: “Real estate real talk,” Rant/Rave, Feb. 18, 2016.
With reference to Grant’s column and BigRookieInc’s comments about the housing situation, what they fail to address is that when young people were starting out on the property ladder 25 years ago home ownership did not seem like an impossible dream, it was difficult but more attainable then, to illustrate this you only need to look at last week’s Westender where it stated that the average sale price of a home in the region jumped 31 per cent last year on top of already horrendously inflated prices. In contrast most Vancouverites salary probably only increased by 2-3 per cent, if at all, during the same period.
