In line at Subway on Robson on August 13, I was surprised to find myself behind a gentleman who actually said please and thank you when he was dealing with the person making his sandwich. I made the point of thanking him for being so polite. (I said something to the effect that I thought I was the only person left who said please and thank you because you rarely hear it anymore). He responded that if he were not polite, his dad would not be impressed. Good on ya, dad! You brought up a polite son! Wouldnt it be nice if more people would opt for the polite route, instead of seemingly barking out orders!

Why does Downtown Vancouver currently have the highest gas prices in North America at $1.44 per litre? Id love to know why we Downtown Vancouverites are deemed to be so well off that we can afford pay an extra 12 cents per litre over, say, Mission, which currently has the lowest prices in the Lower Mainland at just $1.32. Glad I brought my European diesel-driving habits with me when I moved here!

I want to thank the owners of an apartment building onBarclaythat has hired a firm to install barriers to keep the hundreds of seagulls from using the roof to live and nest. The NOISE from these sea gulls is unacceptable.Everywherein the West End, Ican hear theconstantbleatingof the young gull chicks, as well as the screaming parents who are protecting the nest and warning off other birds and predators. It isexcruciating, to hear this. The gullpopulationis out of control and no one will do anything to keep them from using our buildings or cull them in some way. If car alarms go off we can do something about it, but the noise coming from gulls goes through my double glaze windows. Someone in the government needs to take this over-population seriously!
