I read the two replies to my rant and gathered that I hadnt been specific enough for the ranters to understand I said early morning buses, that being buses in the early morning and not other times when I realize that drivers need a break from the unwashed and unruly. Most drivers pull up to the stops, most drivers will accommodate passengers in inclement weather, whether on a break or not. My point was that some drivers, and this one in particular, sit in the bus reading, doors locked for perhaps 10 minutes while passengers stand in the cold and rain. I was talking about courtesy and customer service. So yes, I dress weather appropriate, and could refrain from whining, or I could point out that I do not think that the first bus drivers need to get away from the screaming crowds for a break first thing in the morning.

Have I just been unlucky or has anyone actually seen a cyclist on the new bike-friendly Comox Street? What a great use of our tax dollars by Green Gregor, eh? If he really wants to get more cyclists out of their cars and on to our streets, he should follow the example of the great cycling cities like Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Montreal by dropping the unenforceable and, more importantly, unenforced compulsory helmet law. By stopping to portray cycling as a life-threatening pursuit and freeing potential cyclists from the fear of prosecution for not wearing helmets, way more people would get on their bikes. And the more cyclists there are, the safer cycling would become. Read up on the worlds leading urban mobility expert,(Canadian born)Mikael Colville-Anderson, and find out why European cities are WAY ahead of us in North America in getting urbanites onto their bikes . . . e.g. Copenhagen which is projecting that its already high number of biking commuters will rise by 50 per cent by 2015 . . . and without helmets.

West End seniors must be alerted to the possibility of another sudden illogical and unpractical disruption of their daily life with the regular route change of the #5 bus on Robson, between Thurlow and Granville. Initially excused as a temporary disruption during the Olympics, thousands will be greatly inconvenienced by the bus route disruption. Seniors wellbeing should prevail over the usual unjustifiable excuses.

This is to the teen who let his dog shit on the artificial running track at South Memorial Park on Sunday May 19th and couldnt be bothered to pick it up. We are more civilized than that so get with the program.
