Cue the champagne, New Year countdown and someone to share a kiss with to kick start 2014. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of subscribing to high priced New Years Eve events. Whether you buy into the hype of New Years or opt to keep it low key with a nice movie at home, make it count.
1. Plan some great eats: What’s a celebration without great food? If you’re planning to have some people over, consider a calorie friendly option such as kale chips or baked potato skins with smoked salmon and fresh dill.
2. Set the mood: DIY projects are surprisingly easy and an affordable way to spoil your guest visually and get them excited. This New Years resolution streamer is a great way to get your guests involved. All you need is some string and wooden clips.

3. Prepare a great song list: Organize your list into categories. Start with something a little more upbeat and transition into slower music near the end of the night to let your guest know the party is coming to an end.
4. Plan a great outfit: There’s no need to go crazy and spend all your money on a brand new outfit for New Years Eve. Look for great accessories to add that extra sparkle you need to ring in the new year with.
5. Don’t forget the champagne: Instead of the traditional champagne, try a cocktail. Martha Stewart has a great recipe New Years Eve cocktail champagne recipe using only 4 ingredients.
6. Record your memories: Set a Polaroid camera on a table and create your own photo booth.

7. Edit your invite list: Great company always comes up on top. You can have a pizza party with great people or sit at a fancy dinner with strangers that you feel uncomfortable around.
Even though any time during the year is a great to set some goals, New Years is a great starting point to wipe the slate clean. Take the lessons you have learned and write them down. You’ll be surprised how many of us make the same mistake twice without even knowing it.
