It all started with the movie American Pie when Finch slept with his friend Stifler’s mom. While it’s fairly common for men to go for younger women, there’s a new trend in dating where younger men are going for older women—and loving it apparently.
People often throw around the phrase “age is just a number”. Some people are also of the mind that chronological age has less to do with compatibility compared to mental age. Traditionally, men are complimented when they date or marry someone significantly younger than them. It’s quite a boost for your ego to know that someone younger has chosen to be with you versus their twenty something counterparts. Consider some Hollywood couples with significant age gaps:
-Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas had a 25-year age gap.
-Beyonce and Jay Z have a 12-year age gap.
-Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had a 16-year age gap.
-Kelsey Grammar and Kayte Walsh have a 25-year age gap.
In a surprising reversal of roles, women are now taking the lead on finding a younger counterpart. In case you haven’t noticed or walked through Yaletown recently, middle-aged Yoga moms are giving younger girls a run for their money in terms of keeping up with their appearance.

So what do younger guys like about older women? Do they really have that much in common? I was talking to some of my guy friends recently and all of them disclosed that they have dated someone who they classified as “significantly older” than them at some point in their life. One of my guy friends disclosed that he dated someone who was 34 when he was 20 years old.
“Dating an older women was great”, he said. It was never a messy emotional situation. She knew what she wanted and it was the best sex I have ever had.
“I only go for older women”, another one of my guy friend said. They aren’t as crazy about having babies and a lot calmer when it comes to relationship drama. They have all that experience which makes them better at handling relationships than younger girls.

Most guys are also less vocal about dating an older woman because they’re often teased about having “mother issues” as the reason they go for older women. Furthermore, women are also seen as the instigator of seeking out younger men earning them the title of “cougars”. Contrary to what most people think, men are now actively seeking out older women as potential partners.
Ladies—Looks like aging might not be that bad. Turning 30 might turn out to be better than your twenties after all. Just one of the perks we can all look forward to and enjoy.
