True believers cheer as FIPPA undermines Canadian sovereignty

To the editor: I am appalled by the state of democracy in Canada practiced by Prime Minister Stephen Harper as exemplified by the Foreign Investors Protection Agreement (FIPA), set to be automatically ratified on Halloween.

Two events in the past week provide a neat glimpse at where our two major provincial parties appear to be headed. At one, NDP leader Adrian Dix attracted hundreds of people who probably have never voted for his party before.

Secrecy the norm in petrostates

The protests against the demolition of the Varsity Bowling Alley and with that the iconic Ridge Theatre has proved practically as ineffective as protesting the passage of time.
