Celestial Samaritan of My Week

So, if you're reading Vancouver is Awesome it's probably because you already think so. (On the other hand, if you still need convincing you're on the right site, which is a good start).

Yes, we have beaches and mountains and lots of fun things happening all over the place all the time. But really, what makes any city great are the people who live there and the energy they contribute to making it the kind of place you want to call home.

Last Sunday I was partaking of food and fun on Commercial Drive as part of the Italian Day street fair. All was well and good.

The next morning I got a Facebook message from a woman named Christine who asked me if I had a lime green wallet. I found it rather odd that some stranger was emailing me about my wallet which was in my ... oh, _____ .

Official recreation of the scene. Except not on Commercial. You get the idea.

Later that day I met up with this kind stranger who returned my wallet to me. She told me she saw it on the sidewalk, picked it up, and thought to give Facebook a try. Smart girl.

As I have nothing of real value with which I could thank her, I felt it fitting to present her with a few jars from my unusually large stash of homemade jam (strawberry-mint with black pepper, blackberry jelly, orange marmalade, and chocolate raspberry).

Not having to replace all my cards and identification is one thing, but being spared the panic and agony of looking for a lost item is another.

Christine, thank you so very, very much.

You make Vancouver awesome.
